Competition proposal for international ideas competition arranged by the city of Helsinki in 2020 for transformation of the historical Malmi airfield into large-scale park. The entry’s main goals are to maintain the characteristics and openness of the airfield in the new park, simultaneously introducing new versatile functions, high-quality landscape architecture and ecological values.

 

The large scale feel of the site is emphasized, added with a new layer of human scale. The park has a clear structure where the large scale open areas consisting of lawns, meadows and water features are bordered by lush tree plantings, the Runway promenade and park activities. The parks roots are in its’ aviation history and it will grow to respond to the future with new solutions.
